I know I have been spending a little too much time on Micheal Phelps, but I just can’t seem to get over him, give me a week or so before his larger than life persona wanes from my subconscious self.

The ties between hip-hop music and competitive swimming at its highest level aren’t as tenuous as one might expect. But Michael Phelps has let it be known that he habitually listened to hip-hop while psyching himself up to race

Thirty years ago, after all, the original smash rap single, “Rapper’s Delight”, referenced water sports in the lyric, “After school I take a dip in the pool’.

According to a recent New York Times profile: “The music transforms him. His goofy grin dissolves into a glower, his eyes turn cold as ice. The hip-hop beats have a hypnotic effect on Phelps, who sometimes, after a race, is unable to recall the songs that locked him into his groove.”

Phelps has referenced the Miami-based rapper Rick Ross and New York’s preeminent hip-hop artist Jay-Z as two of the artists he prefers for motivation. Also Outkast, Young Jeezy and Lil’ Wayne are on heavy rotation on Phelps’ iPod as well.

The playlist that Phelps provided to Yahoo.com during his historic Olympic turn reads as follows.

1. “Overnight Celebrity” - Twista

2. “Burn” - Usher

3. “Roses” - Outkast

4. “Till I Collapse” - Eminem

5. “Smile” - G Unit

6. “A Milli” - Lil’ Wayne

7. “Hustlin” - Rick Ross

8. “Hello Brooklyn 2.0” - Jay-Z (featuring Lil Wayne)

9. “I Got What It Takes” - Young Jeezy

Once again, have fun Mike, enjoy that hip-hop music, texting with your buddies and wearing your cap backward

Egyptian woman with her septuplets

A 27-year-old Egyptian woman has given birth to septuplets in the coastal city of Alexandria

Ghazala Khamis had to undergo a blood transfusion during her Caesarean section due to bleeding while delivering the babies.

The newborns, four boys and three girls, weigh between 3.2 pounds and 6.17 pounds and are in stable condition. They have been placed in incubators in four different hospitals that have special premature baby units.

Emad Darwish, director of the El-Shatbi Hospital said

“This is a very rare pregnancy — something I have never witnessed over my past 33 years in this profession told The Associated Press by phone from the hospital.

Darwish decided to carry out the Caesarean section at the end of Khamis’ eighth month of pregnancy due to the pressure on her kidneys.

The woman’s brother, Khamis Khamis, said even though his sister was trying to conceive more children so she could have a son, the family was astonished when they found out she would give birth to multiple babies.

Egypt’s health minister announced that the seven babies will receive free milk and diapers for two years.

I don’t know what is the the record for most record babies delivered at one go but this is the most I have read so far

Michael Phelps got his 8th Olympic Gold

And there he does it finally, he surpassed the Olympic record holders Carl Lewis and Paavo Nurmi, for the ‘most single sportsman golds’. Phelps broke the record Spitz set in Munich in 1972, and which was once thought to be unassailable

Michael Phelps made history today by winning eight gold medals in one Olympics while Australia claimed silver in the men’s medley relay.

The 23-year-old Phelps took a nasty stumble last October that imperiled his pursuit of Mark Spitz’s single Games record of seven gold medals. He slipped on a patch of ice and fell while climbing into a friend’s car in Michigan and broke his right wrist.

Phelps got a standing ovation in Beijing from the packed 17,000 capacity stadium as he acknowledged his historic win.

“The Beijing Olympics has witnessed the greatest Olympian of all time — Michael Phelps of the USA,” the announcer said

Phelps won five individual gold medals and was part of three winning relays. The most nerve-racking relay race was the 400 freestyle relay Monday, when anchor Jason Lezak caught France’s Alain Bernard in the final 10 meters and out-touched him at the wall.

The most gut-churning individual race for Phelps was Saturday’s 100 butterfly victory by one-hundredth of a second.

He has without any doubt proved to be one of the greatest Olympic sportsperson. You are the Supreme Olympian

Here I would like to quote Mark Spitz once again:

“It goes to show you that not only is this guy the greatest swimmer of all time and the greatest Olympian of all time, he’s maybe the greatest athlete of all time. He’s the greatest racer who ever walked the planet.

You did it Mike, now go have fun, enjoy that hip-hop music, texting with your buddies and wearing your cap backward

Carmelit, Israel’s funicular underground metro

The Carmelit is the one and only funicular (underground metro) in Israel and was originally built in 1956. However, after existing for only 30 years, it was decided to stop the running of the Carmelit, as it was showing signs of structural old age and system breakdown

Due to the city being located on the side of mount carmel, the entire single track ‘funicular’ system has been designed to accommodate the incline, hence the strange stepped stations and diagonal trains

Because much of Haifa is built on top of the Mt Carmel, the Carmelit goes up and down the mountain. The altitude difference between the first and last stations is 274 meters

The Carmelit is one of the smallest subways in the world, having only four cars, six stations and a single tunnel 1800 meters long. The four cars operate as two two-car trains, which run on single track with a short double-track section to allow trains to cross.

French first lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy says her husband (President Nicolas Sarkozy) was not upset when he learned of all the nude photos she did during her modeling days.

Carla B says that she would like to be considered as the new Jackie K. France’s first lady, who is still Italian and not yet French, and her principal role model is an American, Jackie Kennedy.

Bruni-Sarkozy told Vanity Fair magazine that she gathered up her past nude shots to show President Nicolas Sarkozy early in their relationship, telling him: “You must know that this is going to come out.

“He said, ‘Oh, I like this one! Can I have a print of it?’ is how the president remarked.

Carla also says that she would never allow herself to be photographed ladling out soup for her husband at the Elysée Palace, as France’s first post-war First Lady, Yvonne de Gaulle, was

On the contrary President Sarkozy remains stubbornly unpopular. The morale of French households slumped last month to its lowest level in more than two decades. The people of France, who were suspicious at first, have come to admire Carla Bruni-Sarkozy – her beauty, her cheek, her self-assurance, her good manners. None of that seems to have helped her husband very much. His popularity rating remains mired in the 30s or low 40s

Lesson 1:

A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing up her shower, when the doorbell rings.
The wife quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs downstairs. When she opens the door, there stands Bob, the next-door neighbor.
Before she says a word, Bob says, “I’ll give you $800 to drop that towel, “
After thinking for a moment, the woman drops her towel and stands naked in front of Bob After a few seconds, Bob hands her $800 and leaves.
The woman wraps back up in the towel and goes back upstairs.
When she gets to the bathroom, her husband asks, “Who was that?”
“It was Bob the next door neighbor,” she replies.
“Great,” the husband says, “did he say anything about the $800 he owes me?”

Moral of the story
If you share critical information pertaining to credit and risk with your shareholders in time, you may be in a position to prevent avoidable exposure.

The price of oil rocketed to a record high past $146 a barrel today owing to falling reserves of US crude, fueled by concerns over a larger-than-expected drop in U.S. stockpiles and the threat of conflict with Iran.

Brent crude rose by as much as $2.43 to $146.69 a barrel in London. US light, sweet crude added $2.28 to $145.85

Prices may also be lifted with increased buying before U.S. oil markets close Friday for the Fourth of July holiday.

The latest record-breaking price surge also came after Iranian Oil Minister Gholam Hossein Nozari said that Iran would react fiercely to any military attack against the oil exporter

By the afternoon in Europe, light, sweet crude for August delivery was up 51 cents on the day to US$144.08 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Earlier in the session, it rose as high as US$145.85 a barrel, a new trading record.

On Wednesday, the contract set a new closing record for floor trade at US$143.57 — a full US$2.60 above the previous close
