Guess what? Your interest in modeling could spoil the institution’s “homely environment”. Sounds like a Joke right, No but is this is exactly what Sampurna Lahiri had to face, she was denied admission to Class XI of Alipur’s Multipurpose Government Girls School in Kolkata School for her interest in modeling.

What does modeling have to do with admission? A school cannot deny admission to a deserving candidate because she or he is into modeling. Sampurna, passed Madhyamik in the first division from the same school, also she was among the top 10 in this year’s Sananda Tillotama beauty pageant.

Sampurna’s father has been asked to file a written complaint by Higher Secondary education council secretary Debasish Sarkar Lahiri explained to Sarkar that his daughter was being denied admission even after scoring around 68 per cent in Madhyamik. Lahiri said “He (Sarkar) sympathised with my daughter and asked me to meet him personally with a formal complaint”.

But Jayanti Roy, the principal of the Judges Court Road school, stuck to her stand. “Modelling was hampering her studies. I cannot allow this in school. Had it been a college, I would not have objected

Roy’s logic that Sampurna’s interest in modeling would spoil the institution’s “homely environment” sounds like a rude Joke

No wonder India is not producing any more Miss World’s and Miss Universes’s
